You can dial our acccess numbers from a pay phone however there may be a surcharge by pay phone operator which is beyond our control meaning it may cost more than the charges stated on this website.
Yes. If you want to call a mobile phone in another country, look up the access number for the relevant country and use the number displayed to call mobiles in that country. Sometimes this may be a higher rate and therefore a different access number than the land line in the same country.
Because we specialise in international calls and your current service provider (whether it is BT, NTL, Telewest etc) does not. When you dial our access number we charge your service provider not you. Your service provider has to share their profit as part of UK telecom interconnection agreement. We use the money we receive to fund calls abroad. Similarly, the reason that it is expensive to call UK mobiles from the UK is because your telephone company has to pay the mobile company when you ring a mobile number. A Mobile phone company use the money to fund the infrastructure, pay their staffs etc. In this case, we use the money we receive from 0844/0871/0905 numbers to fund international calls. We also keep overheads low by being purely web based and not having to staff expensive call centres.
We do not offer a price match service because we believe we offer some of the most competitive rates around. Please be aware that other companies who promote lower rates often charge higher connection fees with daily, weekly or monthly charges in addition to startup/disconnection fees and contracts that tie you into using their service and/or minimum usage. Due to the nature of our service, cheapcallsabroad.co.uk charge no fees other than the rates found on this website plus we give you the freedom to come and go as you please. We are so confident in our service and rates we say if you can find a better service with cheaper rates you’re free to use them!
In order to bring you the best rates, from time to time we change the access number you dial to access different countries. This usually means a reduction in rates, unfortunately in rare cases changing the access number you use means you will be paying an increased rate, but rest assured we are constantly monitoring competitors prices and strive to bring you some of the best rates in the industry. So whilst it the rate you pay may have increased for the time being we still believe it offers much better value than any other service and there is every chance we will be able to decrease it in the coming months. Find the most up-to-date access numbers.
Certain UK operators may not allow calls to our access numbers. Contact your service provider and ask them to remove any restrictions.
On rare occasions you may find that the access number for a specific country on the charges page is different from the access number on the lookup tool. This happens when we change the access number for a certain country and update the rates in the lookup tool before we get the chance to update the charges page. The numbers and charges on the lookup tool are the most up-to-date. For this reason we recommend you always use the number on the lookup tool page.

There is no registration required. All you need is the access number for the relevant country you wish to call. We suggest you write this down for safe keeping. Once you’ve dialed the access number listen to the recorded instructions and when asked for it enter the destination number (the number of the person you want to call) including the full international dialing code.
We only bill you for the time you are connected to the access number. All prices are inclusive of VAT. There are no hidden charges from us. Please check with your service provider for any connection fee’s charged from them. But remember they will charge you this for international calls regardless of whether you use us or not. The only difference is that their rate per minute is higher. BT charges a 10.9p (inc VAT) set-up fee (as of Oct 2010) for each call. For example, if you made a ten minute call to a landline in Spain (using the access number 0844 720 2321 at 1 pence per minute) the total cost of the call from a BT land line would be 20.9 pence (10 minutes x 1p/min = 10p + 10.9p connection fee). This is what will show up on your bill. Your service provider may charge calls by the second or rounded to the nearest minute. Here is a full list of access numbers and rates
You will not receive any bills directly from us. All calls to our access numbers will show up on your normal phone bill from your service provider (usually BT, TalkTalk, NTL:Telewest/Virgin Media, or your mobile provider). As your normal telephone provider sends you the bill, only the detail they usually include will show up on your bill. Unfortunately, we are unable to supply you with itemised call records.
If the full international phone number shows up on your phone bill it means you have not dialed the access number correctly before calling your international number. If you still feel you have been charged too much we suggest you contact your service provider (the company who sends you your bill) as it is likely they are charging you a fee which is outside of our control. We do not receive a penny from any extra charges that your service provider charge you. We are unable to overcharge you as we adhere to Ofcoms (the UK’s telecommunications regulator) strict guidelines. If your service provider is unable to satisfactorily settle the issue please visit www.ofcom.org.uk
No. We charge one flat rate regardless of the time of day or which day of the week you call. All numbers can be used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We used to charge differently using 0845 and 0870 numbers. These numbers no longer work and you should look up the new access number for the country you wish to call.
Currently this service only works from inside the UK to call foreign countries. It does not work the other way around (e.g if you were in America you can not use it to call the U.K). If you wanted to do this you could call the person in the U.K and then get them to ring you back using the relevant access number for the country you are in.
Yes, absolutely. If you want to call from your mobile phone in the UK it is the same technique as if you were dialing from a land line. You do not need to press the call button after dialing the destination number, only after the access number. Once connected to the access number just dial the destination number and allow it to connect automatically. Some mobile phone providers even include calls to our access numbers in with your free minutes, please check with your mobile service provider (usually O2, Vodafone, Orange, T-mobile, Virgin or Three) for actual costs. You can also use this service to call mobiles within the UK. Simply look up the access number for “UK mobile”.
